Are AI-generated recordings allowed on Tidal?
Tidal allows AI-generated music on the platform, provided it complies with our AI Policy, Terms and Conditions of Use, Content Guidelines, and other applicable requirements.
What does Tidal consider AI-generated music?
Tidal defines AI-generated recordings as recordings that are wholly generated using generative artificial intelligence. Due to limitations in AI-detection technology, and to avoid false positives, we will only be taking action with respect to wholly AI-generated recordings. As reliability of AI-detection technology improves, we will expand actions to recordings that are substantially AI-generated. We will be taking no actions as to AI-generated compositions.
Does Tidal label AI-generated music?
Yes. Tidal labels recordings that it determines are wholly AI-generated. This will help provide transparency so listeners understand what kind of content they are listening to.
How do I report AI-generated recordings that aren't tagged?
If you believe a track was created entirely using AI but is not currently tagged as AI-generated, please submit a report through our support form.
When completing the form, select:
- I need help with a copyright or trademark violation or AI tagging
- I want to file an AI flag review
- This track wasn't tagged as AI but should be
Can I block all AI-generated recordings?
Yes. You can turn off AI-labeled recordings in Settings.
Once it's off, AI-labeled recordings won't play. They will also be removed from your personalized recommendations as they're refreshed. Most recommendations update daily, while album recommendations may take up to a few days to update. Until then, you may still see some AI-labeled content, but it will be grayed out and won't play.
For artists and distributors
Can AI-generated recordings earn royalties on Tidal?
Recordings that Tidal identifies as wholly AI-generated are not eligible for royalty attribution.
Can Tidal remove my AI-generated music?
Yes. Tidal may block or remove AI-generated music that violates our policies or is associated with fraudulent activity, including content that deceives listeners, exploits an individual's or group's name or likeness, interferes with authentic artists and their audiences, or otherwise undermines the integrity of our platform.
What does Tidal consider fraudulent AI-generated music?
Fraudulent activity may include AI-generated music that is intended to mislead listeners, impersonate artists, interfere with authentic artists and their audiences, or is associated with unusual upload or streaming activity. Tidal reserves the right to determine whether content is being distributed primarily for fraudulent purposes.
Does this policy apply to Tidal Upload?
Yes. Tidal Upload content is subject to the same AI-generated music standards as catalog content. If Tidal determines that Upload recordings are wholly AI-generated, they may be labeled as AI-generated and will not be eligible for direct-to-fan monetization.
Why didn't I receive royalties for my track that was created entirely with AI?
If Tidal identifies a track as wholly AI-generated, it is not eligible for royalty attribution under Tidal's current AI Policy.
What if my track is 99% AI-generated (or less)?
We understand that focusing on wholly AI-generated content means some partially AI-generated content may remain unlabeled on Tidal. Our AI Policy is a living document and may evolve as technology advances.
What if my recording was incorrectly identified as wholly AI-generated?
If you believe your track was incorrectly identified as wholly AI-generated and you did not use AI to create the recording, please submit an appeal through our support form.
