Early Access to Direct Uploads

Early Access to Direct Uploads

Direct Uploads is only available to a limited number of invited participants. If you have been invited to participate, please see the details below. For others, stay tuned for future updates as we expand access.

Getting Started

What actions can I perform with early access to Direct Uploads?

You can upload audio tracks that you own, edit track metadata (title, artist name, release year), play tracks, and share tracks with other people. These people can then play them in the app or on the web, even if they don’t have a subscription. When you upload and share tracks, you will also be able to see listener and play stats.

Will my uploaded tracks be available publicly?

For now, your uploaded files are private, meaning they can only be accessed by individuals you share them with.

I missed the instruction emails, but I got invited to try Direct Uploads. How do I get started?

Make sure you have the latest version of the TIDAL app on your device. Once logged in, you’ll be prompted to try Direct Uploads. Accept the Terms of Use and click ‘Continue’. If you need further assistance, please reach out to us at insider@tidal.com. If you previously received and dismissed this prompt, you can turn the feature on (or off) via a new toggle available in Settings -> Beta Features. Once enabled, click the Upload icon (up arrow) in the navigation footer to get started!

How long do I have access to Direct Uploads for?

Your access to Direct Uploads will continue from early access right through to the public release, as long as you adhere to our Terms of Use.

File Uploads and Sharing

What kind of files can I upload and share using Direct Uploads?

Direct Uploads provides a flexible upload framework that supports many file formats such as MP3, FLAC, WAV, and AAC. Each file can be up to 256MB in size. We ask that you compress your files if they exceed this limit.

How many files can I upload and share using Direct Uploads?

At this time, you can upload and share up to 25 tracks. For each track you upload, you can share it with up to 100 TIDAL users or email addresses.

How do I share uploaded tracks with others?

During early access, you can share your tracks in two ways:

  1. Email invitation: Send tracks to a limited number of people who may not have a TIDAL account. Recipients can access and play the tracks easily through the TIDAL web player.
  2. In-app: Share directly with a TIDAL user by selecting their profile.

Do people I share with need to be TIDAL subscribers?

No. If you share a track with someone who does not have a TIDAL subscription, they will receive an email with a link to access the track. They will need to create a TIDAL account but do not need to subscribe to a paid plan to listen to the shared track.

How are recipients able to play the track I shared?

For TIDAL users, tracks you share will appear in a new 'Shared with You' section within 'My Collection'. If they receive a track via email, they will get an email notification with a link to access the track, and can do so via the TIDAL Web Player (no app install required).

Can recipients download tracks I share?

No. Recipients will only be able to play the track on TIDAL.

Does the music that I upload earn royalties on TIDAL?

No, your uploaded files do not earn royalties.

Can I invite a friend to join Early Access to Direct Uploads?

Not at this time. We'll be expanding to a wider audience over the next few months. Stay tuned for updates.

Support and Troubleshooting

I’m an artist registered on TIDAL Artist Home, but my credentials aren’t working to log into the TIDAL streaming app. What should I do?

If you’re a registered artist on TIDAL Artist Home, be sure to use those same login credentials. If you forgot your TIDAL Artist Home password, try resetting it at artists.tidal.com. If that doesn’t work, please reach out to us at insider@tidal.com.

How do I report an inappropriate file shared with me?

We expect all shared content to be respectful. If that isn’t the case, please let us know right away by clicking the ‘Report’ action for the inappropriate track in the 'Shared with You' section of ‘My Collection’ in the TIDAL app.

Can I block content from being shared with me?

We want you to fully experience and test all functionality, so the ability to block content sharing isn’t available yet. If you’d like to stop using Direct Uploads, you can navigate to Beta Features in Settings and toggle it off.

Who do I contact for help with Direct Uploads?

If you need assistance or have any questions, please email us at insider@tidal.com.

How do I provide feedback about Direct Uploads?

You can email insider@tidal.com at any time, and you’ll also be asked to participate in a brief, 3-minute survey.

How do I turn off Direct Uploads?

You can navigate to Beta Features in Settings and toggle it off. Please note that only Uploaders (people who can upload and share tracks) have this option. If you're just receiving shared tracks, you won't see this toggle, but you can delete tracks from the 'Shared with You' section.
